Bellbrook Moms Address Possum Run Speeders
BELLBROOK -- Families who live in one area neighborhood are upset with the speed and number of vehicles flying down their street and they've taken matters into their own hands.
After the city opened Clyo Road a few years ago, making Possum Run a straight shot from east to west Bellbrook, the traffic has dramatically increased.
This summer a group of moms went to Bellbrook City Council with their complaints and the council listened, putting in four-way stop signs Aug. 9.
But the families we talked to Thursday said these stop signs aren't enough.
"This may be your route to home and work, but this is the street we live on. What would you feel like if people were going 35 and 40 in front of your house with your kids playing in the front yard," three-year Possum Run resident Liz Howard asked passionately.
There are 22 kids who live along this single block.
Molly Deweese and her husband moved into their Possum Run home 10 years ago. Since then her family has more than doubled, and so has the traffic on her street
"We have cars that see the children playing and they don't slow down. I have witnessed myself several children almost get hit by a car," Deweese said. "We had a great little neighborhood that's been turned into a highway. We went to city council and voiced our opinions, said it's unsafe for our kids."
Enter the four-way stop.
"Yes, we're thankful for the stop signs. It does do something, but it's not enough, we need more!" Howard exclaimed.
The passionate duo says they're looking for more protection for their children in the form of additional stop signs, speed bumps or tables.
"Anything that will slow down some of the cars that are speeding," Deweese pleaded.
We reached out to the Bellbrook City Manager, who tells us he believes the stop sign has solved the speeding issue on Possum Run.
The families we spoke with will be joining forces and going to the next Bellbrook City Council meeting on Oct. 14, to ask again for help from their local officials.
