UPDATE: Man And Woman Found Dead After Standoff
UPDATE: Man, Woman Found Dead in House After SWAT Standoff
DAYTON -- Police Chief Richard S. Biehl has confirmed that a man and woman were found dead in the basement of a house involved in an overnight standoff with the SWAT team.
Biehl said the woman suffered a violent death and she might have been dead before the standoff began.
The chief said the 24-year-old man did not shoot himself but did not provide any details about the manner of his death. His body was reportedly found next to the woman's body.
She was described by Biehl as in her 30s. The man and woman were in a relationship, the chief said.
Police said they suspected the man had weapons in the home. He collected toy guns so they were not sure if he had a fake or real gun during the standoff.
Biehl said the man has a history of mental issues.
The chief said a relative was watching the woman's children and when she didn't check on her kids, she called police to check on her welfare.
Police arrived at the house Nordale address about 9 p.m. Sunday. The man reportedly told officers the woman wasn't at home but at some point he displayed a weapon.
Police retreated and called the SWAT team, which began the standoff.
Biehl said there will be a news conference later today about the standoff and deaths.
UPDATE: Coroner on Scene at Dayton Standoff
DAYTON -- SWAT teams have left the scene of a standoff with a man who was reportedly barricaded in a house with a woman.
Police are still on the scene, however, and investigating, taking photographs and collecting evidence.
The Montgomery County Coroner's Office is on the scene.
We're still on the scene as well and will bring you the latest on this developing story as details emerge.
DAYTON -- Police and SWAT teams have been called to a home in the 800 block of Nordale Ave.
Initial reports indicate a man is holding his girlfriend hostage. And police believe weapons are in the house. The standoff started just after 11:00 Sunday night.
Just after 4:30 a.m., police made another attempt to contact the man inside the house. You could hear the loudspeaker tell the man to come out. That was followed by sirens but there was no response. At one point police did make contact with the man through a window and he told officers he was not coming out.
Police are still working to get that man to come out of the house. At 6:00 Monday morning police ordered him to come out the front door but there was no response.
Police have the area blocked off and a SWAT team is surrounding the home. Over the scanners we heard a robot was just sent into the house to get images. Police also had to move a car out of the driveway to get better access to the door.
We'll bring you more information as it develops.
