Northern Kentucky Youth Sports Coach Indicted for Allegedly Molesting Six Boys

HEBRON, Ky. -- A longtime Boone County youth sports coach was indicted Tuesday on 14 felony counts for allegedly sexually abusing six boys between May 2011 and June 2013.

Michael Schweitzer, 46, of Hebron was originally arrested by Boone County Sheriff's deputies on June 26 on charges of sodomy in the first degree and unlawful transaction with a minor in the first degree. Schweitzer molested a 13-year-old boy entrusted in his care after drugging him with a sleeping pill, the Boone County Sheriff's Office said at the time.

After that boy came forward, five other boys also reported they were drugged and abused by Schweitzer, according to Kentucky Attorney General Jack Conway, who announced the indictment.

Conway said that Commonwealth Attorney Linda Talley Smith requested his office handle the case.

On Tuesday, a Boone County grand jury indicted Schweitzer on three counts of sodomy in the first degree (Class B felonies), three counts of unlawful transaction with a minor in the first degree (Class B felonies), and eight counts of sexual abuse in the first degree (Class D felonies).

If Schweitzer is convicted on all counts, he could face up to 70 years in prison, Conway said.

Schweitzer was "a volunteer coach for various Boone County area youth baseball, basketball, football and wrestling teams," Conway said.

I want to assure the parents of the children whove come forward this case is a top priority for me and my office, Conway said. I hope that all parents whose children may have had contact with Schweitzer have a family conversation tonight and contact the Boone County Sheriffs Office (859-334-2175)  if there are allegations of abuse.

Schweitzer is being held in the Boone County Jail on $500,000 bond. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Aug. 21 at 9 a.m. in Boone County Circuit Court.
