UPDATE: Police Arrest Six for OVI at Wilmington Pike Checkpoint
KETTERING -- The Kettering Police Department, along with the Montgomery County O.V.I. Task Force, conducted an OVI Sobriety Checkpoint on Friday, from 10 p.m. until 2 a.m. in the 2700 block of Wilmington Pike in Kettering.
In addition to the checkpoint, additional Kettering officers were assigned to saturation patrols around the checkpoint site during the hours of the checkpoint.
Police say the Checkpoint and saturation patrols resulted in six OVI arrests, 19 driving under suspension and/or no drivers license charges. There were 24 other traffic citations issued for various offenses. The checkpoint also issued 92 traffic warnings.
In addition to the traffic offenses the detail yielded seven misdemeanor drug arrests, one citation for having an open container of an alcoholic beverage and a warrant arrest.
This was the first checkpoint conducted in Kettering this year and police say it was successful. In all, 1,002 cars were stopped during the operational hours of the checkpoint.
Law Enforcement Cracking Down on Drunk Drivers
COLUMBUS (AP) -- There's a big end-of-summer push against drunken driving in Ohio.
The Ohio Highway Patrol calls it an "enforcement blitz" that began Friday and continues through Labor Day.
It's part of a national "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" crackdown against drunken driving during the final busy weeks of summer vacation.
In Ohio, the effort will include more than 7,000 enforcement hours and more than 900 hours of patrols.
In all, 494 people died in drunken driving-related crashes in Ohio in 2012. Drunken drivers were involved in 44 percent of all fatal crashes across Ohio.
Friday night Kettering Police along with the Montgomery County OVI Task Force held an OVI checkpoint in the 2700 block of Wilmington Pike.
There were six OVI arrests and 19 people charged with driving under suspension or without a license. Officers issued 24 other traffic citations and 92 traffic warnings.
