UPDATE: Robbery Suspect's Gun Duct-Taped to Hand, Police Say
DAYTON -- Police fired a shot at an armed robbery suspect after he fled a market, according to police.
The man looked like he was wearing a silver glove, but police said he duct-taped a gun to his hand during the robbery.
Police said he went into the North Main Super Duper and robbed the clerk at gun point.
A customer saw the robbery and called 911.
Officers chased the man to Pointview, where police said he pointed a gun at officers. A Dayton detective with the Safe Streets Task Force fired one shot at the suspect, but missed.
"Everything appears to be justified with this shooting at this time. And the guy is lucky he didn't get shot," Assistant Chief of Dayton Police Bob Chabali said.
Police surrounded a home where the man surrendered on a porch. Brittney English lives close by and saw the arrest.
"Police pulled up, and drew their guns. He was on the porch. They threw the man on the ground and handcuffed him," English said. "It's scary, but stuff like this happens all the time on our street, so I'm not surprised."
Police are not releasing the suspect's name at this time.
DAYTON -- The suspect in a Tuesday morning robbery of a Main Street market was reportedly shot at by a veteran Dayton Police detective before being arrested.
The 30-year-old suspect, who has yet to be identified by police, reportedly ran from the Super Duper market on North Main Street. Police reportedly saw him running with a gun, which they discovered later was duct-taped to his hand.
According to police, the suspect pointed his gun at officers during the pursuit, which prompted a detective to fire his weapon.
Police say that detective is a member of the Safe Streets task force. The detective was in plain clothes and wearing a vest that identified him as a member of the police department during the chase and when the shot was fired.
Police have not yet released the identity of the detective.
The suspect was not shot and there are no reports of injuries. The man was arrested on Pointview Avenue, about a block away from the market.
He is facing felonious assault, aggravated robbery and possibly kidnapping charges.
