Daytime Burglaries in Washington Township
WASHINGTON TWP. -- Brazen would-be burglars hit at least two homes Monday in Washington Township.
One person was home when the bad guys struck her house.
"This has been a really safe area like my whole life, and suddenly there's someone breaking down my door," said Ellen.
She only wanted to be known as Ellen, and she lives in a quiet neighborhood in Washington Township off Spring Valley Pike.
"I've lived here pretty much my whole life and I've never heard of anything like this happening," she said.
She says she came home to grab a lunch when someone started knocking on her door.
"They were really insistent so I looked outside in the driveway and just saw a car I didn't recognize so I didn't answer the door," she said. "Just thought it was telemarketers or something like that."
She thought she saw them driving away.
"I saw the guy come to the back of the house, he like poked his head in the window but he didn't see me and he kept going," she said. "Then there was this really loud noise and that was our door being kicked in, and so I yelled and I ran over to see what was going on and he saw me and ran away."
Police say if you're inside your home, and you see someone peeking through the window, just tap on the window to scare them away.
"I'm really surprised because this area is usually very safe," said Kelly, Ellen's neighbor. "I mean you'd have to be kind of stupid to break in especially in the daytime."
Montgomery County Sheriff's deputies also investigated a possible break-in on McEwen, another busy thoroughfare.
And even though the would-be burglars didn't take anything from Ellen's house, she still feels violated.
"My parents have worked their entire life just to get to where they are, and this is their house and I'm kind of upset that somebody decided to kick their door in," said Ellen.
The victim describes the man as a tall white man with a baseball cap and a tan.
She also describes the getaway vehicle as a navy blue truck, possible a Chevrolet.
If you see anything suspicious in your neighborhood, please call your local police or Sheriff's Office.
