Police Searching for Man That Followed a Woman Jogger
DAYTON -- A warning to neighbors living in the Walnut Hills neighborhood in Dayton.
A woman says she was followed while out jogging Monday night.
"I started jogging towards the end of John Glenn and there was this man in this black van, beat up black van, without a shirt on, had a hat on and he was following me," said Rachel Ford.
She jogs in the quiet Dayton neighborhood often, and has never had a problem.
"I just noticed how he kept going back and forth and it got to the point where he kept turning around so many times," said Ford.
It's at that point she slowed down, and started walking.
"He actually started to follow so slow he managed to get his van so slow to my pace when I was jogging," she said.
Rachel screamed and started running to a nearby house, where a woman just happened to be standing on her front porch.
"I think that kind of scared him off when he saw me come up to a house with someone on the phone so he sped off," said Ford.
Once safe, Rachel called police. who are now searching for the man, but with him still out there, she has some advice.
"Be careful," she said, "Maybe try to jog with some friends, don't jog alone."
She also suggests carrying mace, no matter what time of day.
"That's sad you shouldn't have to do that, it's not really a bad neighborhood," said Ford.
But she knows it's better to take action and protect yourself.
"That's just frightening, I have a kid and I don't want anything to happen to me," said Ford.
The man is described as white, in his fifties, tan and has a mullet haircut.
The van he was driving was an older black Astro van.
If you see the man or recognize the description, call Dayton Police at (937) 333-COPS.
