UPDATE: Movie Theater Manager in Critical Condition Following Shooting
HUBER HEIGHTS -- A movie theater manger is fighting for her life after she was shot leaving work.
Anika Emmanuel, 22, is in critical condition after getting shot late Wednesday night at the Danbarry Cinemas in Huber Heights.
Police said Anika was leaving work with the cash for the night deposit when a man approached her car.
"She was ordered to give the money, the passenger side window was shot at, and she was shot in the torso," Huber Heights Police Chief Rob Schommer said.
Emmanuel was able to drive away and called 911. She drove to the Huber Heights Police Department.
Portion of the 911 call:
Emmanuel: I can't breath. Oh my God. I think I passed the police station.
Dispatcher: Was he trying to rob you?
Dispatcher: You were shot in the stomach?
Caller: Yeah. Please help me.
Emmanuel is a Kettering College student, working to enter the nursing program, according to the college.
Kettering College issued this statement today:
"Our faculty say she is a hard worker and is quite pleasant to have in their classes, a model student. The thoughts and prayers of the entire Kettering College family go out to Anika and her loved ones during this time.
We are prepared and want to provide all the support that we can, and we wish her a full and speedy recovery."
Police said they are still trying to figure out if anything was even taken from Anika. Police have very little information about the shooter and are hoping witnesses come forward.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Huber Heights Police Department at 937-233- 2080.
HUBER HEIGHTS -- The manager of the Danbarry movie theater, 22-year-old Anika Emmanuel, is still in critical condition this morning. Police tell us she was shot about 11 p.m. Wednesday right after she got into her car.
Police say a man walked up to the passenger window and shot the woman. She was hit on her right side. Police say the 22-year-old immediately drove off toward the police station. She also called 911 letting officers know she was shot. Police say the shooter may have been after the money. Emmanuel was leaving with a stack of cash to make the nightly deposit.
Huber Heights Police say they don't have any witnesses at this point but there were plenty of people inside the theater when the shooting happened. We talked to one moviegoer who says he saw officers in the theater. At first he thought they were checking IDs then he realized it was much more serious.
Police collected information from all the people in the theater to conduct more interviews later if needed.
A K-9 unit was also brought in to track where the shooter went. They lost the scent near Rural King, an area behind the theater.
That shooter did not get his hands on any of that money.
Officers do not have a good description of the suspect. They tell us the next step is to check surveillance video at the movie theater. They will also check with nearby businesses to see if they have any video surveillance.
HUBER HEIGHTS-- A woman is shot while outside a movie theater. It happened at around 11:00 Wednesday night at the Danbarry on Wayne Town Boulevard. Police say Anika Emmanuel, the manager of the theater was shot while handling the night's deposit money.
