Air Force Opens Special Ops Fitness Challenge to Public
WPAFB -- Do you have what it takes? The U.S. Air Force Special Ops Fitness Challenge is scheduled for June 14 at Huber Heights YMCA.
“The Air Force Special Ops teams are made of professionals who are extremely physically fit and mentally tough,” said Lt. Col. Francine Nelson, commander of the 338th Recruiting Squadron. “It is challenging to find individuals who can meet the criteria of these elite career fields."
The challenge is a two-lap 25-meter underwater swim, 500-meter surface swim, 1.5-mile run and timed pull-ups/sit-ups/and push-ups. Participants will have their own evaluation worksheet for evaluators at each station to document their times or scores. All participants must sign a waiver before participating.
Those under 18 years of age can participate if the waiver is signed by themselves and a legal guardian or parent.
“We hope to accomplish two goals with our Special Ops Fitness Challenge,” said Col. Nelson. “One is to bring more awareness to the general public that the Air Force has Special Operations forces and what the standards are, and second to identify people that may be interested, and capable, of becoming part of these Special Ops teams.”
To register, contact Master Sgt’s Brandy Martinoli or Ernest Castillo by June 11 by e-mail at Brandy.Martinoli@us.af.mil or Ernest.Castillo@us.af.mil or by calling 937-257-3586. There will be prizes and refreshments for this event.
The Huber Heights YMCA is at 7251 Shull Road. The event is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., and is open to the public at no charge.
