Kettering Cancels Sports Leagues Tonight

KETTERING -- The dangerous heat has forced Kettering Parks and Recreation to cancel all outdoor adult sport league games for Friday night.

This is the first time the department has had to call off events due to extreme heat. The  decision to cancel came after the heat index was reported to reach more than 100 degrees.

"We felt it was in the best interest and the safety of the patrons to cancel our softball leagues, even though softball is a passive sport, it's still really not safe for people to be outside for extended periods of time with any exertion," said Jim englehardt of kettering Fitness Sports.

In response to the heat wave, the kettering recreation center is also offering discounted admission this weekend at its pool.

The Kettering Recreation Complex is offering a "Beat The Heat" special. Kettering residents will be admitted for $2.50 (youth) and $3 (adults). Non-residents will be admitted for $5 (youth) and $6 (adults).
