Heat Hurts Air Show Attendance

DAYTON -- The heat wave sapped attendance totals at this weekend's Vectren Dayton Air Show. Preliminary numbers showed attendance was down 38 percent for the two-day event.

An estimated 47,000 people attended the 38th annual Air Show at the Dayton International Airport. Air Show officials called the event a success.

"The 2012 show lineup was simply awesome." Michael Emoff, chairman of the United States Air & Trade Show Board of Trustees, said. "We are pleased with the number of people that attended, given the abnormally high temperatures."

EMS personnel from the airshow reported 202 patients were treated on Saturday. Of those, 29 were transported to a hospital.

On Sunday, 74 were treated at the air show. Four of those were transported to a hospital.

Both pediatric and adult patients were treated, mostly for heat exhaustion and dehydration.

The U.S. Navy Blue Angels headlined the Air Show this weekend. Plans are already underway for the 2013 show in July next year. The actual show dates won't be available until later this year.
