Springboro's dream of a no-hitter stolen with just 5 outs to go

SPRINGBORO, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – A no-hitter in baseball is a claim to fame for a pitcher – a feat to be put on a pedestal.

Just one mistake could bring the fantasy to an end, which was the unfortunately reality in the Division I sectional between Springboro and Bellefontaine May 11.

The Panther’s ace Drew Saunier was carrying a no hitter against Bellefontaine, when Mr. Reality hit just 5 outs before the end of the game.

Sam Martz sliced a liner to left, smashing the no hitter into oblivion.

But the Panthers still took home the last laugh in the game. Bryce Haberthier clobbersed a double into the gap during the 6th, allowing Carter Jones to cross home plate. Springboro went on to close out the inning winning by the Mercy Rule.
