Top 22 - 2017: CJ's Ryan Peltier
DAYTON -- Ryan Peltier was expected to be the starting quarterback at Chaminade Julienne his sophomore season but with record setting QB Jacob Harrison transferring to Centerville Peltier was the Eagles' new starter.
CJ was hurt by numerous senior transfers that season leaving numerous other sophomores in the same spot as Peltier. The Eagles promptly went 2-8 with a young inexperienced team.
But that large class made huge strides in 2016 turning in a 6-4 campagin.
Peltier enters his senior season as one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the Miami Valley and seems poised for a big season.
"I've gotten a lot better at throwing the ball the past two years," Peltier said.
"My coaches have put in a lot of good pass plays. A lot of the spread offense is a lot better than it had been it's kind of easy to me now."
Peltier is not only a two sport star at CJ - he recently committed to play baseball at Ball State - but he's a dual threat in the backfield for the Eagles.
Earlier in his career Peltier may have been more prone to try and run the ball when a play broke down but CJ head coach Marcus Colvin said he sees a clear difference in his quarterback now.
"About midway through the season last year a light bulb kind of clicked, a confidence light bulb," Colvin said.
"He just played a lot of really good football for us. We ended up having a pretty good season especially at home. Things started to become a little slower for him. There's nothing really we need to install for him to learn, it's just really perfecting the things that he's been doing the last couple years for us."
Entering his third season as a starter Peltier not only has a wealth of experience but will be one of many relied on to lead CJ in 2017.
"Any coach will tell you if you've got an experienced quarterback you have to feel ok about your opportunities," Colvin said.
"Last two years I've learned a lot about being a leader," Peltier said.
"This year it's kind of my year to lead this team being a third year starter. It's different leading my example is what I do. I know some of the other guys are more vocal than I am."
