Smitherman leaves Stebbins for Xenia
XENIA -- Monday Xenia announced that Trace Smitherman will be recommended to Xenia Board of Education to be the next head football coach at Xenia.
Smitherman has been at Stebbins since 2008 and helped lead the Indians to a resurgence that includes two of the best seasons in school. Stebbins went 7-3 in 2015 , their best record in more than two decades, and the Indians were in contention for their first playoff bid until a Week 10 loss.
In 2014 and 2015 Smitherman was selected as the Miami Valley Football Coaches Association Coach of the Year. In 2015 he was also named the Division II Southwest District Coach of the Year.
“we’re extremely excited to welcome Trace to the Buccaneer program and are looking forward to his wealth of knowledge, experience, and determination that he will bring to our student athletes,” Xenia Athletic Director Nathan Kopp said in a statement.
