Dayton women dominate St. Bonaventure
DAYTON, Ohio – The University of Dayton women's basketball team defeated St. Bonaventure at UD Arena, 80-59. Jayla Scaife had her third double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 rebounds to extend the Flyers' winning streak to five games.
The Flyers (11-4, 4-0 A-10) remain unbeaten in Atlantic 10 play while the Bonnies (6-11, 1-3 A-10) suffer their third conference loss. The win gave Dayton its first Wednesday victory of the season.
2nd quarter, 8:06 mark – Jayla Scaife was fouled and made a three-point field goal to give the Flyers the lead. She missed the free throw to complete the four-point play, but JaVonna Layfield boarded the miss for a put-back. Dayton did not trail the rest of the game.
1st Quarter: Dayton 14, St. Bonaventure 19
Jayla Scaife had the first six points for Dayton.
St. Bonaventure went on a 7-0 run in a two-minute span to end the quarter.
The Flyers did not make a free throw.
St. Bonaventure's Mariah Ruff led all scorers with nine points.
Scaife led the Flyers with six points and four rebounds.
2nd Quarter: Dayton 45, St. Bonaventure 30
The Flyers had three three-point field goals within the first three minutes of the quarter.
Dayton went on a 10-0 run in two minutes to regain the lead, 27-21.
The hot three-point shooting continued as Dayton made six in the quarter and eight in the first half.
St. Bonaventure went cold in the second quarter, shooting just 26.7% from the field.
The Flyers shot 70.6% from the field and 66.7% from three-point range in the quarter.
Dayton had 15 fast break points in the first half, compared to St. Bonaventure's two.
Jayla Scaife led all scorers with 14 points; Layfield led with 10 rebounds.
Dayton assisted on 13 of its 18 field goals.
The Flyer offense scored 31 points in the quarter, more than any opponent has scored against St. Bonaventure in a second quarter this season.
