Adam Bertke and Flyers trying to 3-peat
MARIA STEIN -- Adam Bertke stepped in as Marion Local's starting quarterback in the first game of his sophomore year and while the Flyers lost that night the team hasn't lost much since.
Marion Local is 32-4 with Bertke at the helm to go along with a pair of state championships.
Bertke's face adversity this season though, missing four games due to injury. However, the team continues to win which is one reason why the senior downplays his role in the team's success.
Head coach Tim Goodwin praises Bertke for his work in close games especially in the playoffs where the QB has led last minute drives to lift the Flyers to wins. From a late drive to beat Delphos St. John's in the state semi-finals as a sophomore to his late game heroics against Covington on Saturday.
When he graduates the quarterback Bertke will head to Pittsburgh on a football scholarship, but not before what he and the Flyers hope is a third state championship in a row.
