Doggie Dash 'n Splash to Benefit Xenia Dog Park
XENIA -- A cast of canines will be cavorting from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, at Greene County Parks’ annual Doggie Dash 'n Splash, featuring a new puppy pool and canine spray ground, vendors, exhibitors, demonstrations, concessions and much more.

The new puppy pool was made possible by donations and the creativity of the park agency’s maintenance team. The splash ground will be relocated to the area in front of the restroom facilities.

With the passing this year of  “Scout,” whose family made the lead gift to create the dog park, the event will feature a new contest, “Scout Says,” to celebrate the life of the 15-year-old rescue pet.

Other highlights of the day will include Southern Ohio Flying K9's; ‘Scout’ says; crowning of the Doggie Dash ‘n King and Queen with Royal Court, as well as Mutt Strutt, canine costume contest, silent auction, herding demonstrations, canine spray ground, musical chairs; Best Trick; most unusual markings; rescue organizations; and goody bags while supplies last and concessions.

Nominations for King and Queen candidates are still being accepted; log on www.gcparkstrails.com and follow the event link for nomination information. Votes are also still being accepted for current nominees for 25 cents a vote with all proceeds going directly to the Scout Dog Park.

Exhibitors will include Advocates 4 Animals; Bath Fitter; Best Breed Pet Foods; Black Pug Pottery; DREAM; Dan’s Portraits and Caricatures; Dayton Care Center; Dig It Design; Invisible Fence; John Sale Manor; Lapis Wolf Studio; Miami Valley Pet Therapy Association; Med Vet Dayton; Midwest Boston Terrier Rescue; Moochie & Co,; Nancy Lyons Pet Massage; Ohio Pug Rescue; Paws @ Relax; Pet Perfection; Poo-B-Scooped; Quench; Ritter’s Frozen Custard; Robyn’s Nest, Inc,; SISCA Pet Adoption; Smokin’ Bar B Q; That Photo Studio; Therapy Dogs International 22; TruPointe; Unique Creations; Vitas Innovative Hospice – Paw Pal Program; and Wagner Subaru of Fairborn. More exhibitors may be on the grounds with late registrations.

Sponsors of the 2012 event include Wagner Subaru of Fairborn; Pet Perfection, Xenia; Eldridge Roofing; Mueller Roofing Distributors; Invisible Fence; Jim and Brenda Kahlo; Best Breed Pet Foods; Nature’s Select of Dayton; and TruPointe/Purina, Xenia.

Admission is free with a $5 parking donation. All well-mannered dogs welcomed but retractable leashes are prohibited.

All proceeds from the event benefit the maintenance and expansion of the Scout Dog Park, Xenia, which is managed by Greene County Parks & Trails. The dog park is the only public dog park in Greene County.

The popular dog park is comprised of four acres with mature trees, rolling terrain and creek bed. A smaller paddock is available for smaller dogs. All paddocks offer drinking fountains for humans and dogs, dog shower, double-gated courtyard entry, pet waste stations and convenient parking.
