CENTERVILLE -- Police say they have identified the man who was seen on surveillance video walking into an elementary school without permission.

Centerville police say they have spoken to the man, who gave them a reason for being at the school.

Police say they don't believe the students or staff at Primary Village North school in Centerville were in any danger but police are now investigating the man's story.

Centerville Police Looking for Help Identifying Man Inside Elementary School

CENTERVILLE -- Centerville Police are asking for the public's help to identify a man who walked into Primary Village North in Centerville.

Surveillance video from inside the school shows the man walking into the building, as a student walks out, and instead of checking in at the front desk, he turned the other way.

"It was not typical behavior of our parents, or grandparents or people coming into our building," said Tom Henderson, Superintendent for Centerville City Schools.

"I think anybody trying to get into the school is a concern as a parent," said Mikahla Inness, Centerville parent.

As he walked down the hall, police say he approached a student, and asked where the bathroom was located.

That's when the school secretary at the front office, noticed the man, and within seconds walked over to him.

"She was talking to him asking him to check in and sign in and what was his purpose in the building and she walked him back to his office and he decided to leave."

The district doesn't know why the man walked inside the school, but once they contacted the school resource officer, he contacted police.

"We don't know it could have been something completely innocent," said Officer John Davis, Centerville Police Department, "Our fear is that he might have been testing the security measures of the school."

Visitors can't just walk into any school building in the district. All of the doors are locked, and they have to be buzzed in by staff.

"I always have to beep before I can get in, I have to look into the camera before the secretary allows me into the school," said Inness.

In fact, last year, Centerville Schools installed all new locks on their doors, along with the intercom and camera system outside the doors.

"Safety of our staff and students is priority one, we take it very seriously, it's something that we practice," said Henderson.

Even with Tuesday's incident, parents feel confident in the district's security.

"I feel like that's protocol here, so I feel like the kids are safe and that's just what the secretaries do here at Centerville," said Inness.

They're asking anyone who might recognize him to call police at (937) 433-7661.

CENTERVILLE -- Centerville police are asking for the public's help identifying a man found wandering around two Centerville elementary schools.

Officers released surveillance video of the man when he was inside Primary Village North. He's wearing a ball cap, and t-shirt with "U.S." on it. Police say he got into the school, as a student was walking out. He then walked past the front desk, approached a student, and moments later the school secretary confronted him.

Police say a man matching the same description was seen outside Weller Elementary today. They're asking anyone who might recognize him to call police.
