Question of the Day

Was the swap of 5 Taliban prisoners for Sgt. Bergdahl a smart move?

17.14% YES
82.85% NO

Comment: I think it was a very good move. Those Taliban prisoners would have been released anyways once the Americans pull out of Afghanistan. So at least this way we got something for then and this Soldier gets to come home to his loving family. Win/Win from Ohio by M

Comment: u cant kill them as prisoners

Comment: Anyone who says no think about it. What if this was your son or your husband it would be worth it. He gave up so much for his country and we should fight and do whatever it takes to get P.o.w.s back on American land. Period. There should be no question from Dayton,OH by Kasey

Comment: It is always a good move to bring an American Back home. If he has questions to answer he can do it when he gets home. from Dayton, Oh by Rodney

Comment: The Obama administration says he wasn't a hostage but a POW. Last I checked the Taliban isn't a recognized government, so the Geneva convention rules don't apply. from Trenton, Oh. by Ken

Comment: they need2 watch him close now from dayton, ohio by jack jr

Comment: Yes, I think the 5 were a bit out of touch with other Talaban and they have lost a lot of power and will not be a Top Terorist now. He also needed to be recued and to come home! from Arcanum, Ohio by Anita Tesch

Comment: No. So now all Americans in that region are in danger of being kidnaped, because of how our president handled this. Trading one deserter for five high value terrorists. They now have our number. from South Charleston, Ohio by Dian

Comment: Our country is losing all respect in the world. from Greenville, Ohio by Richard Fisher

Comment: There was supposed to be no negotiating with terrorists. There had to be another way. That's why he is president, because he is sup posed to think of alternatives like having the navy seals blow in there and rescue him. from Dayton, Ohio by Ann

Comment: They will soon be back on the battlefield and the "captive US soldier" was a deserter. from Albertville, Al. by Jim

Comment: First of all we the United states has said we dont negotiate with terrorist. Now we have set a price for every American soldier & have made them bigger targets. Second he deserted his fellow soldiers and America. No he is NOT a HERO and I pray he is not praised as one. I would feel the same way about my son if he did this. FYI I did 26 years in Air Force and yes my son is serving in the Army. We know the true meaning of leave no soldier behind. from Dayton / OH by Nick

Comment: One the soldier was a deserter and others lost there lives because of him. Two your letting prisoners go to possibly do again what got them there. from Dayton Ohio by Arthur

Comment: I don't think you can use smart in the question. Absolutely sick! An awol soldier for five murderers? Tragic. by Deb

Comment: Every Soldier knows he is expendable. This guy appears to be a Traitor and was a bad trade. If found Guilty he should absolutely be shot. As for obama, just another in a long line of illegal acts by what I see as an absolutely Anti-American so called president. from Fairborn by Dave

Comment: He left on his own which ended up in six other soldiers dead. Now we have let go some key Taliban prisoners to plan another attack on this country. Just unbelievable! from Vandalia,Oh by Maryann

Comment: I am sure there were US Military wounded or killed in the capture of these terrorists! And to just trade them for a soldier who wasn't sure he wanted to be an American anyway.....our administration has some serious problems. from Dayton, Ohio by Lee

Comment: Not really sure. My worry would be what is their next move. from Dayton Ohio by Connie

Comment: The deal puts American soldiers in more danger. Negotiating with terrorists is seen universally as being dangerous for our soldiers over concerns that more could be taken hostage as a result. In the case of Bergdahl and the Taliban Five, Barack Obama seems to have taken things a step further, overriding the intelligence community within his own executive branch. If you think 911 was bad, with these terrotist on the loose, can be much worse! I seem to remember "W" saying..."We don't negotiate with terrotist" !!! Bergdahl turned his back on his fellow soldiers and this country!! He was only spared his life as a "POW" because he chose to turn his allegience to Islam and become Musilm!!!! from Dayton, OH by Don K.

Comment: It's hard to say either way at this point in time. This was a bold trade, which, on the surface, appears to lean in favor of the Taliban. This was obviously a very controversial move, and the extreme scrutiny of which was most likely anticipated. I'm sure the five released Taliban members will be monitored closely by the U.S. What we don't yet understand is whether Bergdahl will be a very valuable asset to the U.S., in that he could have crucial insider information on the Taliban. If this is true, the general public probably won't know for quite some time. This is a complex situation, and I'm sure there was more than the no man left behind principle involved in making this decision. from Troy, OH by David

Comment: It puts a target on every American traveling over seas that the US will pay a heavy price for hostages . Also , our men and women died to capture these 5 high value terrorists . These Soldiers and Marines deaths are seemingly valueless to our White House . What are they thinking ... from troy by mitch

Comment: We shouldn't negotiate with terrorists. from Beavercreek, OH by Brian

Comment: I believe the young man may have been a deserter? Either way 5 extreme terrorists should not have been set free to spread more hate and fear. from fairborn/ohio by vickie

Comment: If the prisoners had a chip implanted in them so they could be tracked, it could have been an idea. This would make it possible for drones to find them and take them out if they continued in their terrorism activities. from Xenia, Ohio by Wallace
