Question of the Day

Does Ohio need stricter vicious dog laws?

72.72% YES
27.27% NO

Comment: The majority of "vicious dogs" are that way only because of their owners. Chained dogs will become vicious. Dogs that have an aggressive nature (any breed of dog) need training and an owner with a strong personality that are able to handle them and keep them in line. Just like children that are let to run wild - discipline (not physical) and positive reinforcement go a long way in helping to handle behavioral issues - but it needs to start young. from Springfield, OH by Nora

Comment: As long as it is for all vicious dogs and not just certain breeds. The breed if dog should not matter. I also believe the owners of vicious dogs should be fined and have to relinquish ownership of said dog or dogs. from Dayton, Ohio by Dianna

Comment: need to have stricter laws against owners, and breeders, & how the animals are being raised. from west chester, ohio by melissa

Comment: not all dogs in the same breed are bad. So you are saying that one bad human makes the whole human race bad. Cause that's what you are saying. from Dayton, ohio by Tish

Comment: its the owners that need the help. the dogs are fine.

Comment: Ban all pit bulls. they're nothing but trouble. from Kettering / oh by Larry

Comment: NO, THEY JUST NEED TO ENFORCE THE LAWS THEY HAVE WHICH THEY SEEM INCAPABLE OF. from sunny, downtown Fairborn by the ol' Man

Comment: We need stricter laws for the owners. Believe this latest incident was the owners causing this by terrorizing the poor lady using the dogs. The dogs did what the owners were teaching them to do. Owners should be accountable for how they train their animals. from Fairborn, OH by Pat

Comment: Not against breeds of dogs - but all dogs in general. They should be either confined in a fenced area or on a leash period. I know many ankle biter dogs (little ones) that will send you to the hospital. from London/South Charleston, OH by Lisa

Comment: I am a meter reader and have to deal with dogs daily. I have called the police and animal shelter about certain dogs that they are aware of. And been told be careful. So I think there is a problem. from Troy by Della

Comment: Dogs can be like "weapons", it's on how the owners train them. from Dayton, Ohio by lee

Comment: Dogs should be kept in their yard,on leash,or not let out w/o their owners supervision. Just like a small child.Common sense!! from Eaton by Shari

Comment: the news isnt telling both sides of story..there could very well be more to it..ive lived in two homes close to the neighborhood "CAT LADY" in both cases the ladys usually older un married would walk by and torment my dogs not to mention the 20 plus cats that would sit just outside of reach..just imagine what that lady with 20 cats in her home must of smelled like..especially to those dogs witch the lady hated..just something to think about from miamisburg by m

Comment: We had a specific pit bull law on the books that was recently changed. from dayton by thom

Comment: Yes we need stricter laws regarding vicious dogs but in the same breathe, we need laws charging the owners with cruelty in making that said dog a vicious dog. Its more about the owner than the dog. from Dayton, OH by Betty

Comment: Yes we need stricter laws regarding vicious dogs but in the same breathe, we need laws charging the owners with cruelty in making that said dog a vicious dog. Its more about the owner than the dog. from Dayton, OH by Betty

Comment: And a better response from police and the court system. from Germantwon by Jan

Comment: Yes, but only if they laws are written to address the issues of vicious dogs and their owners. No breed specific legislation! from Springfield, OH by Holly

Comment: that was a bad way for that lady to die the owners of this dog should not get out of being punished too many dogs biting people not the dogs fault but the owners fault for raising it to be mean from dayton ohio by debbie
