Biden Addreses Middle Class, Starts With Somber Tone

FAIRBORN -- Fifty-five days to go, and the battle lines in this battleground state are drawn.

"Gentleman, it's never, never, never a good bet to bet against the American people," said Vice President Joe Biden before a crowd of supporters at Wright State University.

Across the way were protesters, those who say they have heard it all before.

"Ohioans are not better off than they were four years ago," said one protester.

His speech is part of a five-week plan by the Obama campaign to blanket the Buckeye State.

The Apollo room of the WSU Student Union was packed and energized for the second to the Commander-in-Chief. It was an uproar from supporters as Biden took the stage; but he began on a somber note, recognizing the attack on the Libyan embassy that killed four Americans, including the ambassador.

"We are resolved to bring to justice their killers," declared Biden.

His focus then turned to the economy.

"Creating jobs here in America, keeping jobs here in America, and bringing jobs back to America, that's the job of a president," he said, and the crowed erupted in applause.

Biden touted their plan to keep and grow Medicare, expand education and new energy. He says their tax breaks will keep helping the middle class.

"To grow the economy is to put more money in the pockets of middle class people. What we should be doing is promoting the private sector not the privileged sector."

Biden knocked the Romney camp's messages several more times and generalized their tone.

"America has adopted - what's their phrase - a culture of dependency, in decline. I honest to God don't know what country they're talking about, it's not where I live," said Biden as he began to wrap up his 25-minute speech.

"Everything they've done for the past four years proves to me that they understand they need to grow this country from the middle up," said Mary Coyle, a supporter.

"It's gonna happen, it's just a matter of time, we just need all these people to get out there and vote," said Sam Pride, a supporter from Dayton.

The vice president thanked those who serve, and that went over very well in this military town. The campaign's already been to Ohio 19 times this year, three times already this month. President Obama is planning a trip to Cincinnati Monday. Representatives tell us we can expect many more visits from the campaign before November.Biden Addreses Middle Class, Starts With Somber Tone
