WKEF-TV ABC 22 News :: News - Good Morning - Rapunzel Cast Members Cut Their Hair For Cause

Rapunzel Cast Members Cut Their Hair For Cause

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP – Trapped in a tower far from home, the lovely Rapunzel waits for her true love to rescue her and restore her kingdom! Town Hall Theatre is presents the regional musical premiere of Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale March 1-17, 2013.
Written by Cincinnati-based composing duo, Janet Yates Vogt and Mark Friedman, who penned last season’s hilarious How I Became a Pirate, this adaptation will delight audiences looking for a Shrek-like take on this “tangled” fairy tale!
Advance tickets are $15 for adults, $13 for students and seniors and $10 for kids 12 & under. All tickets purchased at the door are $15. Patrons may reserve tickets in advance online at www.townhalltheatre.org or in person or over the phone at the box office, which is open M-TH from 4-7pm at 937-433-8957. The show runs 90 minutes and is recommended for children ages 4 and up.
The cast of Town Hall Theatre’s Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale is challenging audiences to participate in its month-long “Rapunzel Hair-Raising Event.” The theatre has partnered with Square One Centerville Salon  March 1-19, 2013 to raise awareness, money, and, most importantly, hair donations for Locks of Love.
Locks of Love is a public non-profit organization that provides vacuum fitted hairpieces to financially disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss from any diagnosis.
As part of this event, the cast challenges audience members to donate 10” of hair or $10 prior to all performances of Rapunzel.  Donations of hair or money may also be made between March 1-19 at Square One Centerville Salon during regular business hours. Those donating at this location may elect to have a stylist cut their donation for free! An appointment is required for this service and may be made by calling 433-4900.
All who make a donation of 10 inches of hair or $10 will receive a complimentary gift from Square One Salon and Spa and be registered to win a complete spa treatment at their facility!
Locks of Love meets a unique need for children by using donated human hair to create the highest quality hair prosthetics. Most of the children helped by Locks of Love have lost their hair due to a medical condition called alopecia areata, which has no known cause or cure. Others have suffered severe burns or injuries or endured radiation treatment to the brain stem or other dermatological conditions that result in permanent hair loss.
The vacuum fit is designed for children who have experienced a total loss of scalp hair and does not require the use of tape or glue. The prostheses they provide help to restore self-esteem and confidence, enabling these children to face the world and their peers.
The organization, which began operation in 1998, provides the prostheses to children under age 21. These hairpieces require between 6-10 ponytails and take approximately 4-6 months to manufacture. Thousands of bundles of donated hair arrive as a result of the national publicity that Locks of Love receives in newspapers, magazines, and television programs. It is estimated that children comprise over 80 percent of the donors, making this a charity where children have an opportunity to help children.
Donated hair is evaluated for its usefulness according to the following guidelines: It must be at least 10”, clean and dry; it must be bundled in a ponytail or a braid; bleached hair cannot be used; hair that has been dyed or permed can be used.
Monetary donations to Locks of Love are tax deductible. For more information, please email the Events Coordinator at volunteer@locksoflove.org.
The show runs just over an hour with intermission and is recommended for children ages 4 and up.
Patrons may also want to take in a special Rapunzel Tea* before each Sunday 3pm matinee from 2-2:45pm at Unique Celebrations Tea Room, located across from the theatre. Guests will enjoy treats, beverages and party favors beginning one-hour before each Sunday matinee of Rapunzel. Reservations are available online or by calling the theatre. *Additional fees apply.
Rapunzel! Rapunzel! A Very Hairy Fairy Tale is presented by the Landmark Children’s Theatre Company, the theatre’s premiere series featuring professional and volunteer adult actors performing with young people. It is staged by DayTony award-winning director Chris Harmon, with musical direction by Greg Dastillung and choreography by Shawn Storms.
