Chris Takes The Cheesesteak Challenge !

Dayton, OH— Could you eat a 16” Super Duper Cheesesteak (more than 2 ½ pounds of food) in 16 minutes or less? If so, this is your chance to be crowned the 2012 Miami Valley Cheesesteak Champion. The Submarine House announced today the return of the Super Duper Cheesesteak Challenge beginning January 28th.
The locally owned restaurant chain, voted Best Subs in the Miami Valley in 2011 and 2012 by ActiveDayton.com, is bringing back this competition after its overwhelming success in its first two years. Hundreds of Miami Valley residents competed while others came from as far as Columbus and Cincinnati to tackle the monster sandwich. The first two champions, Kris Mick in 2011, and Steve Howard in 2012, will participate again this year.
The competitive eating tournament challenges contestants to be one of seven store champions who will then compete for the overall championship. From January 28-March 24, contestants attempt to eat a 16” Super Duper Cheesesteak (triple meat and cheese) in 16 minutes or less. If they are successful, they will win their sandwich for free and a Super Duper Cheesesteak Challenge T-Shirt. The ten best qualifying times from each location will win a spot in the Semi Finals the week of March 25.
At the semifinals, a store champion will be determined by the person who can eat the 16” Super Duper Cheesesteak in the fastest time. These seven store winners will then be invited to participate in the finals on April 6 at 1pm at the Beavercreek Bar & Grill, in the Kroger Shopping Center at Dayton-Xenia and North Fairfield. A panel of celebrity judges will be on hand at the finals including K-99’s Frye Guy and WHIO’s Larry Hansgen. The winner of the finals will be crowned the 2013 Cheesesteak Champion.
The contest is sponsored in part by K-99 to benefit the Dayton Children’s. Throughout the tournament, patrons will be encouraged to make donations to Dayton Children’s and then be eligible to win one of dozens of prizes to be given away at the finals. The prizes include a 50” Smart TV, Ohio State football tickers and many more . Winning ticket holders need not be present to win.
The Super Duper Cheesesteak Challenge will work to raise awareness and money for Dayton Children’s. “We are excited to put on this event and help a worthy cause at the same time. The Submarine House has worked for many years with Dayton Children’s, but we hope this year to raise the most money ever to help the children in our area,” said Brody Danner, franchise owner and operator . Donations will be collected at all Submarine House locations throughout the contest.
The Submarine House restaurants have been a Dayton institution since 1973 and they are now celebrating their 40th year in business. The franchise has seven area locations, including three Bar & Grill restaurants. Located from Troy to the north and Centerville to the south, they feature chessesteaks and submarine sandwiches but also carry a line of pizza, salads, and healthier alternatives. The chain also features a daily Kid’s Eat Free promotion with a separately paying adult. The Bar & Grill locations have multiple flat screen televisions and are a popular spot for sports fans.
