A daring rescue caught on camera as a Broward firefighter jumped into deep waters to save a dog that was struggling in a canal during Hurricane Irma.

The Broward Sheriff's Office says its fire rescue crews received a call from Deerfield Beach on Saturday that a dog was frantically swimming in a canal.

Crews arrived and could see the dog getting exhausted.

A firefighter jumped into the water and swam out about 1,000 feet to reach the dog and bring it back to shore.

BSO says the dog collapsed and was treated by firefighters. A short time later, the dog was revieved.

Authorities say it is unknown how the dog got into the canal in the first place. The dog was eventually reunited with its owner.
