"Someone just broke in my friend's house and shot her," said the 911 caller.
A frantic 911 call last night after 29-year-old Lacie Henry was killed in her South Fountain Avenue home.
"Shortly before 9:30, two subjects forced their way into the house with, one with a long gun, one with a pistol," said Springfield Police Chief Steve Moody.
Police said several people were in the home at the time .
They were gathered up.
"Basically, this was a robbery. During the robbery Miss Henry was shot," said Moody.
Her 2-year-old child was also in the home.
"Apparently one of the individuals in the home actually shielded the 2-year-old who was in the living room with mom," said Moody.
"That's just sad and horrible, especially for a 2 year old," said neighbor Tiffany Harper.
The killers got away.
"Whoever shot the person should be caught, because the person doesn't deserve it, especially if they had a kid," said Harper.
Neighbors said the people in the house lived there for just about three weeks. They said there was constant traffic in and out.
"No matter what was going on, we have a victim here, a young mother that's dead by violent means," said Moody.
Moody said anyone with information should step up.
"Think of the season that we're in right now and we have a 2-year-old little girl that will never grow up to know her mother. Understand this young lady, a mother and a daughter, lost her life during a robbery. That should not be acceptable to anyone in this community," said Moody.
Henry had been recently indicted for drug trafficking and drug possession.
Her death is the fifth homicide in Springfield this year.
