Semi drives off I-675 slowing traffic for hours, EPA called to scene

Semi drives off highway on I-675, slows down traffic for hours (WKEF/WRGT)

WASHINGTON TWP, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Traffic has been slow-moving on I-675 in Washington Township for more than three hours this morning after a semi truck drove off the highway.

The crash happened around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday morning between Wilmington Pike and SR 48. The driver was heading southbound when he lost control and drove into the woods off the right side of the road.

Officer John Davis with Centerville Police says someone saw the accident happen and called it in. "Had they not, we probably wouldn't have even seen this truck back here," says Davis. "He's very fortunate that a witness saw the truck go off the road because where he ended up, he could have gone quite a while before anybody actually found him."

Davis says the driver is a 52 year old man from Lebanon, Ohio. He's not sure how serious his injuries are, but says they are not life-threatening. "He was speaking with our officers, but certainly not to the point that we need for our investigation," says Davis. "Our main focus was to continue on and get him out of that truck. He was trapped for probably about 45 minutes."

We're told the EPA has been called to the scene, there was a diesel fuel tank on the truck and crews will investigate that. As of 8:15 a.m. part of the interstate is still shut down.
