Ohio State edges narrow victory over Michigan in annual blood battle
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX/WTTE) —
The Ohio State University has edged a narrow victory over University of Michigan in the 2017 American Red Cross Blood Battle.
The American Red Cross said Ohio State surpassed that school up north by just 53 donations. The final score was 2,321 to 2,268. The win reclaimed the title for the Buckeyes.
“Buckeye fans came through to help hospital patients and showed they bleed scarlet and gray to beat Michigan,” said Rodney Wilson, communications manager for the Red Cross Central Ohio Blood Services Region.
The blood donated by the Buckeyes help to support patients at 41 area hospitals according to Red Cross.
Nearly 4,600 pints of blood were collected during the competition.
