UPDATE: Suspect fires shots at officers at scene of fatal shooting
UPDATE: Dayton Police said a suspect fired shots at police officers while they were responding to a fatal shooting Wednesday afternoon.
Crews had reportedly heard shots fired in the area of Groveland Avenue and went to check out the scene. They said at least two people were involved in an altercation, and that one of those people was fatally shot.
A suspect then fired shots at officers, according to the department, prompting them to drop a '99', or call for assistance.
Police said that suspect did get away, and they were actively searching for that person involved.
No officers fired shots in connection with this incident.
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - An officer with Dayton Police called for backup Wednesday afternoon on the city's west side.
The 'signal 99' meaning an officer's in trouble and needs help was dropped around 3:00 p.m. According to a sergeant with the Dayton Police Department, there was a shooting in the 600 block of Groveland Avenue, our crew on the scene reports someone was killed. The suspect, police say, is a black male wearing a white shirt, red sweatpants and white shoes. He was last seen on Lakeview Avenue and is considered armed.
