KETTERING, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Kettering Police honored the 52 officers who have lost their lives this year and all fallen officers at a memorial Wednesday.

Police Chief Chris "Chip" Protsman was the main speaker at the event, and after leading the crowd in a moment of silence to honor the officers, he called two recent cases where his officers risked their lives to save the public.

"We saw an officer struggling with a man last August qho pulled a gun on him with the intent of causing harm," he said, "and recently an officer stopped a woman from being attacked by a man with a gun."

The memorial included Kettering's honor guard, rifle squad, bag pipes, bugle and the presentation of the Kettering Police Foundation Scholarship.
