DP&L shows off new digital and mobile outage maps ahead of incoming snow storm
DAYTON, Ohio (WRGT/WKEF) – The large snow storm that is expected this weekend has utility crews bracing for impact. Dayton Power and Light (DP&L) is unveiling new changes to their outage maps. They come just in time for the big storm.
“It’s more detailed. The tips are right there at your fingertips,” DP&L rep Mary Ann Kabel said.
Unlike the old one, which is limited to county power outage totals, users can now pinpoint the exact location of an outage. A dot will appear right where the outage is within the county, and you can see how close it is to where you live. If you click on the dot, it will tell you when the outage was reported, when it may be fixed, and how many people are impacted.
“It's user friendly. It's mobile friendly,” Kabel said, “This will size according to your phone.”
If you are experiencing an outage, you can report it on the website. Another utility company, Ohio Edison, said one of the biggest issues with power outages is that people do not call or report them. They said that people often think someone else has called already, or that someone will call. If you have an outage be the first to call.
