DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - The holiday season is still a few months away, but the city of Dayton is looking for the tree that will be this year's holiday tree in Courthouse Square.

The ideal tree will be between 45 and 60 feet tall and 25 feet wide. The tree also has to be located in the front or side yard of a property. The city says it prefers Colorado green spruce or blue spruce, but will consider other evergreens that are 'grand and stately.'

Once the tree's selected it will be cut down and hauled into Dayton's Courthouse Square and decorated with 50,000 lights. It'll then be the centerpiece of the Grande Illumination ceremony on November 24. The owner of the tree will be able to take part in the lighting ceremony.

If you have a tree you think should be considered, or know someone who does, call Colleen Turner at the Downtown Dayton Partnership at 937-224-1518 ext. 221. You can also email her at You can learn more about this year's Holiday Festival and Gande Illumination here.
