Coaches get a lesson in youth football safety at clinic
DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) – We may be months away from football season, but coaches are already working on ways to keep kids safe on the field.
USA Football put on a youth clinic to help them do just that at Beavercreek High School June 17.
Coaches learned proper tackling techniques that reduce hit to the head with the goal to reduce concussions, as well as how to improve recognition and response if a hid does get one.
“It’s never going to go away,” Steve Specht with USA Football said, “so we have to deal with it and do it in a better way; to teach better ways to do it.”
The clinic also taught coaches how to spot dehydration and cardiac problems in an effort to keep kids safe as summer practices begin.
About 80 percent of youth football leagues nationwide participate in the program.
