Students, parents glad there's no DPS teachers' strike (WKEF/WRGT)

DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF/WRGT) - Dayton Public School teachers headed back to the classroom Thursday instead of on the picket line, and many said they are happy about that

Those FOX 45's Rhonda Moore talked to did not want to see teachers strike, as it appears that's not going to happen .

Earlier Thursday, Moore stopped at one high school where they're looking forward to getting the school year started.

"I was nervous we weren't going to have no teachers on the first day," 11th grader Amberly Tucker said.

Some students were just learning there will not be a teacher's strike tomorrow and they're glad.

"We need the teachers in the building, I feel like everything will run more smooth and better with them here," 11th grader Ayyoub Muhammad said.

Some students at Thurgood Marshall High School were passing out school schedules Thursday, and they said they're excited about going to class next week.

"I love the teachers around and they're just happy people and you know there's a lot of great things that happen here," 10th grader Mark Gullette said.

Students said they're glad their teachers will be in the classrooms and they won't have substitutes.

"Substitute and real teachers, they're different," said Tucker.

"it would be chaos in the building," said Muhammad

"Why is that?" FOX 45's Moore asked him.

"You know how kids act when substitues are here," said Muhammad.

Issac Curtiss' kids go to Dayton Public Schools.

"I was concerned, this is where I grew up. Dayton Public Schools sytsem has always had issues with the level of education and teachers getting fair pay," said Curtiss.

He's happy there wasn't a teachers' strike and said his children are ready to hit the books.

"My kids, they've been out long enough, they need to get back to school and get educated. I've got a couple of kids who would go to school 7 days a week if they could," said Curtiss.
